Dance / Movement Therapy

Gain Healing and Insight Through Dance/Movement Therapy

I first discovered the healing power of dance in my late twenties. With no formal dance background, I stepped into a modern improvisational class that would shift the way I understood myself and my body. My instructor emphasized that dance wasn’t about perfecting technique—it was about expressing what was real and true. For the first time, I felt connected not just to movement, but to my whole being. That moment was the beginning of my journey into dance/movement therapy.

Since then, I’ve explored a range of embodied movement practices, from Afro-Cuban styles to yoga. This path led me to become a certified yoga instructor and earn my Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Drexel University in 2007. Today, I support clients in using movement as a gateway to healing, insight, and greater self-connection.

What Is Dance/Movement Therapy?

Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is a somatic psychotherapy that uses movement, body awareness, and expressive techniques to support emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. It’s grounded in the understanding that the mind and body are deeply interconnected—and that movement can access and express what words sometimes cannot.

What Happens in a Session?

Dance/movement therapy is highly adaptable. Sessions may include:

  • Gentle movement or breathwork to help you feel grounded and present

  • Exploring posture, gesture, or habitual body patterns to increase awareness

  • Expressive movement to process emotions or tell a story through the body

  • Conversation and reflection to integrate the experience

Each session is shaped around your needs, comfort level, and goals. No dance experience is necessary.

Who Can Benefit?

Dance/movement therapy can support people of all ages and abilities. It may be especially helpful if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your body or emotions

  • Struggle with anxiety, depression, or trauma

  • Are processing life transitions, grief, or chronic stress

  • Want to build confidence, creativity, or emotional resilience

  • Are seeking a more embodied, holistic approach to healing

This work can stand alone or be integrated with other therapeutic modalities. Whether you're looking for gentle reconnection or deep transformation, dance/movement therapy offers a space to explore your inner world through your body.
